CASA LIBERTAS - The Story of ArtBuckles®
The story of Casa Libertas and our ArtBuckles® owes much to the generations of the past.
Wearing buckles passed down to us, we studied with wonder their art form, and how generations later they continue to perform and endure. Holding to our heritage, cultivating one of the oldest forms of attire, our House gives voice to cultures where a buckle holds meaning as a form of identity and pride.
To those that traveled to new lands, lived on and off the land, depended on nature and her bounty. To the adventurers and pioneers of a former time; to those that rode horses not for sport, but to traverse to new continents; to First Nations and Indigenous People’s that live in harmony with nature. Times where one’s eyes and senses were filled with the spectacle of nature and observing wildlife was ever present.
Casa Libertas honours the horse cultures of the world, expressed in the new world of the Americas when Spanish artisans took their craft of silversmithing and leathermaking to the new world. European settlers, a Cowboy culture, Indigenous peoples, adapted and learned and took the belt and buckle as their own, mostly in the West, including California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado. Further south, in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil the artistry took hold and passed through the generations.
We pay homage to the craftspeople, silversmiths of western Cowboy culture, Native Indians and the Gaucho of Argentina who took the craft as their own, adopting their own techniques from Spanish settlers.
Revitalizing and giving life to the buckle, Casa Libertas combines its’ heritage of centuries old, made by hand techniques to transform our designs today, from sketch to the lost-wax technique and finally as sterling silver art sculptures.
